by Riptide Multisports on August 25, 2009

With excellent weather for racing, team Riptide raced well at the 5430 Long Course on August 9th.

Jocelyn Petrella placed 11th out of 19 starters in a tough professional women’s field that included Julie Dibens and Chrissie Wellington.  Petrella utilized a strong swim to enter the bike in 9th place.  From there she showed an improved bike over previous years, clocking a 2:34:28 over the 56 mile distance.  Onto the run she held strong with a 1:34:27 half marathon, good for 7:13 pace.

The men fielded a relay team and for the second staight year claimed victory.  Matt Balzer was 2nd in the relay field out of the water, behind multiple time world champion Simon Lessing.  Jordan Jones, coming off a leg injury, rode to a 2:12:05 bike split putting the team in first place.  Matt Kempton sealed the win with a 1:17:40 run on hilly dirt roads.
