by Riptide Multisports on February 15, 2009

Matt Balzer started the Riptide triathlon season with an excellent 5th place finish at Florida’s Great Escape Triathlon today in Clermont, Florida. Balzer was 5th out of the water and, with one of the fastest bike splits in the field, entered the run with 2008 US Olympian Jared Shoemaker.

Riding the new Specialized Transition time trial bike since October 2008, Balzer has shown considerable improvement on the bike, posting the fastest bike split at Tinley’s Triathlon Adventure and the 3rd fastest bike today. Balzer will next compete at the Lima Peru ITU Pan American Cup on March 29th.

The next race on the schedule for the Riptide Elite Triathlon Team is the Desert Classic Duathlon In Phoenix, AZ on February 15th where Josh Merrick will compete.
