Progress
Today was a good day, but a little history first. This time 3 years ago I just completed what I think was my 2nd or 3rd triathlon, 500yrd swim, 13mile bike, 5K run. I don’t think I broke 8min on the swim, about half the females in the field out biked me and I think I ran about a 24min 5k. At that point this was huge progress considering about 3 months earlier I was swimming 9min for the 500 had never ridden a road bike before and couldn’t jog a full mile without stopping.
But anything is possible….
I still can’t believe it but for some reason my coach, Sean, decided to work with me. My swim slowly started to come around, the guys on the team handed it to me every day on the bike - I still have nightmares about those first crit ride/run sessions, and I can now proudly say that I can run a mile without stopping.
I have a long way to go to reach all of my goals but this morning, because nasty weather, I put in 60min on the treadmill at 6:44/mile average, and tonight - in the middle of a main set, from the wall, in a drag suit, I swam a 5:50 500 going 75 moderate, 25 fast. Although it has been wicked painful at times, I can honestly say I have loved every minute of work that I have put in over the past 3 years.
So today was a good day, and more importantly it reminded me that anything is possible, especially with the support of a great coach, awesome teammates, and great friends and family.
