Cascade of Swim Team Records Fall at State and Sectional Championships

by Riptide Multisports on March 23, 2009

Morgan McCormick “ROCKS” at the State Championships. Morgan swam 3 individual events at JOs on the March 6-8, 2009 weekend. She swam the 11-12yo girls 50 and 100 back and the 500 free. Also swimming individual event were Spencer White in the 9-10yo boys 50 and 100 back, and Ryder Pittz in the 11-12yo boys 50 and 100 back.

Morgan was the “All Star” of the meet finishing top 16 in all 3 events and scoring all of the Riptide team points. Morgan also posted the 7th fastest 100 backstroke time of 1:05.92 setting a team record that had been around for 9 years. Look for Morgan to be one of the best swimmers in the state soon and also look for her to begin to make Sectional qualifying times.
Ryder and Spencer both had terrific meets also posting best times in all of their swims. Great job boys!

Riptide had 5 boys swimming at Sectionals in Seattle Washington, March 11-15, 2009. This is an extremely fast National caliber meet. Christian Treat, Linley Wendt, Andy Nelson all swam individual events. While Jeremy Erbsen and Michael Bennett swam relays and individual “time Trial” events. All in all we had 21 individual events swum with 24 best times, 8 team records, and an additional 4 team records in relays. Christian Treat made top 32 in 4 individual events getting to swim them in finals at night, finishing 23rd in 100free, 24 in 200 free, 27th in 500 free, and 20th in 200 IM. All team records. Possibly his best swim of the meet was his 500 free posting a 4:38.52. Christian Treat is a Senior in HS and has verbally committed to attend Bucknell University. Christian will swim the summer Sectional Swim Meet and then summer Junior Nationals before going off to college.

Jeremy Erbsen and Michael Bennett came for relays and swam individual time trials. TTs count for times but not officially in the meet, so the goal is to get best times and possibly individual qualifying times for summer sectionals. Both posted best times and individually qualified for events this July at the summer Sectional Championship in Portland. Great job boys!

Linley Wendt and Andy Nelson were our other 2 individual swimmers. Both juniors in HS and attending this meet for the first time. Andy posted the only other top 32 finish with a 32nd place finish in the 100 breast and going under 1min in the 100 breast for the first time. He went 59.65 and set a team record. Andy also posted best times in the 50 and 100 free and 200 breast.

Linley Wendt swam in the 500 free and the 1650 free posting best times in both with a particularly impressive swim in the 1650 going 16:44.83 just holding slightly slower than 30 seconds per 50 which is very tough.

Great job to all!!
