Dan MacKenzie, Jordan Jones, and Amy Dannwolf opened their seasons this past weekend at the Miami International Triathlon. Held on Key Biscayne, the scenic course and well-organized event attracts many of triathlon’s best elite athletes.
MacKenzie was the first Riptide athlete out of the water, followed 20 seconds later by Jones. Jones moved up from 15th to 9th place within the first lap of the two-loop bike course before suffering a broken chain shortly into the second lap, forcing him to DNF. MacKenzie rallied back on the run, posting a solid split of 34:14 to finish in 13th place. Dannwolf, competing in the elite amateur division, finished in 5th place.
Next on the schedule for Riptide is the ITU Lima Continental Cup on March 29th where Dan Mackenzie and Matt Balzer will compete.
