Petrella and Merrick win Mile High Duathlon Series Titles

By: Riptide Multisports

On Saturday July 18th, Riptide athletes Jocelyn Petrella and Josh Merrick competed in The Cabbage Head Duathlon, the final event of the three-race Mile High Duathlon Series, in Wiggins, Colorado.  Both Jocelyn and Josh clinched the series titles with their performances over the 5K run-30K bike-5K run course.

Jocelyn posted an 18:25 first 5K to take a slight lead over the other elite female competitors.  On the bike, Jocelyn fought a stiff wind to a personal best split on the course and exited transition in second place.  Jocelyn finished the day by comfortably holding onto her 2nd place position throughout the second run.

On the men’s side, Josh Merrick coasted to the fastest first run split of the day (16:06) and finished the bike in 3rd position.  Josh made up time on second place during the second 5K, but ultimately settled for 3rd place.

In other news, the Riptide family recently added their youngest member.  Josh and his wife, Beth, welcomed their first child, Ethan Myles Merrick, on Thursday July 15th (2 days prior to Josh racing in the duathlon!).  Congratulations, Josh and Beth!
