Riptide Collects Age Group Wins at Aquathlon Nationals

by Riptide Multisports on May 27, 2011

Tyler Volz, Taylor Fogg, and Fiona Dretzka had the great opportunity to compete in the Aquathlon National Championships right in their own backyards this past weekend. Originally slated to take place entirely at the Longmont Reservoir, a change was made at the last minute as rain waters flooding the reservoir had generated above normal bacteria levels. Instead, the 5k run was held at the Longmont Reservoir, and then the participants traveled an hour south to Littleton for the 1500m swim at Grant Ranch later in the day.

20 year-old Tyler Volz finished 8th overall at the event and 1st in the 20-24 age division. Tyler has been working diligently on developing his run over the past year, and the work is beginning to pay off for the Metro State swimmer.

Taylor Fogg finished 8th overall among women at the event, and captured 1st in the 16-19 age division, beating out Shannon Scovel of Cary, North Carolina by 40 seconds. Taylor’s running has also improved with the training she has put in with the Pine Creek High School Track team.

Fiona Dretzka finished 15th overall among women, and also finished 1st in the 10-15 age division. Fiona had a great swim, posting the 14th fastest swim split, male or female.
