Team Riptide Steps Up at Boulder Peak Triathlon
By: Riptide Multisports
Team Riptide had a strong showing at the 5430 Boulder Peak Triathlon, the premier Olympic distance triathlon in Colorado, this past weekend. In the women’s pro field, Jocelyn Petrella had a solid swim, coming out of the water in 5th place. She persevered up Old Stage on the bike and battled to within 1 minute of 5th place on the 3-loop run course before settling for 7th place overall. Amy Dannwolf started off her pro debut with a very strong swim, exiting the water in 10th place. Once on two-wheels, Amy took on the unenviable task of trying to hold off the surging pro men’s field, including 2008 Olympian Matt Reed. A solid run helped Amy shave almost 8 minutes off her Boulder Peak time from last year. Also, Cailee Andersen brought home the lone podium spot for Riptide, finishing 3rd place in the 20-24 age group.
On the men’s side, Josh Merrick finished 16th amongst the pros. Cyrus Severance had a strong swim and bike, but faded slightly on the run to a 19th place finish in a very competitive age group field.
Next up is the Cabbage Head Duathon this weekend, where both Josh Merrick and Jocelyn Petrella hope to claim the series’ titles.
