Treasure Island Race Recap From Matt Balzer

by Riptide Multisports on July 15, 2009

We started the race out with an interesting deep water start making for a combative first 200m.  Adam swam strong as always and made it to the front with the lead pack, while Dan and I settled into the second swim group about 30 seconds back.  A few riders were shed from the lead pack in the first of 6 loops, and unfortunately one of them was Adam.  Dan made it through about 3 of 6 laps with our pack but was eventually dropped as well.  Myself and about 6 other riders were riding strong and with the help of two other riders that bridged from the 3rd pack we were within 10 seconds of the lead pack by T2.  The run went out fast with Simon Whitfield showing that he was the class of the field.  I battled some minor cramping but managed to finish 25th.  Dan had a strong run and finished just seconds behind me in 26th, and Adam also ran well after a tough bike finishing in about 28th or 29th.
